Title - Tiger Mascots: The New Kings of the Jungle HomeThis is a featured page

The smell of fresh paint infiltrated my nose as I walked through the newly finished hallway. Looking everywhere, I attempted to locate my first period English class. I had nerves all thru my stomach on this first day of highschool. Well, technically speaking I had been in highschool before, but this was changed. Our town had constructed a new high school thanks to our exploding population and had torn me away for my senior year. I secretly hoped it would not be too bad as I took my seat in a handsome new classroom.

My teacher, Mrs. Elcock, was deep into her grammar lecture when a furry looking creature stuck its head in our classroom door. Our new tiger mascot was coming in to point out howdy and hopefully boost our spirits up a bit. I thought to myself that a tiger mascot was the least the new faculty could do considering my last mascot had been a snail. After all, it's tough to be proud admitting that you're a snail. Yes, a tiger mascot would be way easier to adjust to!

The college week came and went and Friday night seemed to creep up on me. I parked my white jeep and climbed out along with three of my closest mates. We were going to the 1st soccer game of the season…against our previous place of solace and old chums. As I climbed the bleachers and sat down timidly, the marching band started to beat on the drums frantically. Our tiger mascot tore out onto the field with a train of battering football player's right on his tail. Just at that point, the band went into full gear and we all jumped as fireworks were let off. Everybody burst into cheers as our tiger mascot started a polished routine of amazing gymnastic moves. I felt sorry for my old highschool as they were led onto the field by a snail mascot in a thread-worn costume.

Suddenly and unexpectedly, I found myself grateful to be part of this new institution and have a tiger mascot representing us. A mascot does have a lot to do with a student's identity and pride. Fortunately, our faculty had done an excellent job in choosing just the right mascot to represent us.
